Not a few people ask for financial help via the internet when they have an expense above and beyond their normal obligations. It's impossible to evaluate the majority of them. Funds for most of us are limited. One may feel sorry for another's misfortunes, but it's impossible to help everyone. What to do?
-
Pray for that need. Ask God to supply. No downside here. You could tell the needy person you're praying for him, or not. It might depend on how well you know the person. Some resent any hint of spirituality. Others will appreciate it. You could communicate privately that you are praying.
-
Help those you do have some familiarity with. Do something.
-
Express sympathy to those who are hurting. This is a sensitive issue. It's not always done well. Some might resent pious words with no concrete help behind them. But the risk is worth it.
-
Share needs you believe or know to be genuine. Asking for help often is best received when coming from a friend rather than the person in need.
-
Give priority to those closest to you. There is biblical precedent for this, Galatians 6.10. Proximity provides many advantages.
People of good will change the world. Let's belong to that group.
