Joy a tender shoot

If we're not careful, joy is like that tender shoot covered by last season's dead leaves.

¶ Chili at night time has become one of the satisfying foods on our new diet. Fills the bill.

¶ First time in many moons the magazine has arrived in the mail. (Only one I get that way anymore.) Good of it, since this issue is on “The Best Life.” Even have a friend or two with an article in it.

¶ The muse made a quick appearance this afternoon ─ must have been the editor's suggestion ─ left an offering, and then skipped away. Can it be bribed to return?

¶ Natural cough syrup, says a well-meaning friend. Don't think we get the same sort of cough.

¶ Thankful for:

  1. recovery from sickness, well enough to travel and teach next week (hope!);
  2. no pain, no fever, a strange enough sickness it was;
  3. wife's patience to take care of me.

¶ If I survive this next trip, we should have some weeks ahead for recovery and rest.
