Events move quickly, time speeds ahead, newsletters fall behind.
Vicki and I went by car to São Paulo June 29. It took just over an hour, since we went to the northeast side of the city, nearest to us. We arrived at our destination about 25 minutes before time for the event to begin. In São Paulo, one never knows how long it will take to get somewhere.
The Vila Guilherme congregation is well established, but small. It meets in a house ceded by one of the original Korean families that established it. It started in the Korean language, but has long since transitioned to Portuguese.
We were invited by Rafael Nardi, who went to camp with our children. He now works as an IT security specialist, is married with three children. (See photo below.) We stayed in their home Saturday night and were treated like royalty.
This was the third time to teach the material: THE WORDS OF THE FAITH. (Read about the first two here.) I taught from 2.00-6.30 pm, most of the time standing behind the pulpit. Rafael said that 49 adults participated. The material, a 22-page outline, was printed and spiral-bound. They also provided us with ample travel funds.
I also taught in the Bible school and preached on Sunday, June 30. The Vila Guilherme congregation meets Sunday evenings at 6 pm. Afterwards, we drove home and made it by 9 pm.
Here are some other tidbits:
- Vicki will teach in women’s events July 27 (São Vicente SP), Aug. 17 (Ribeirão Preto SP), and Sept. 21 (Atibaia SP).
- I have no other teaching confirmed yet in the congregations for the next several months.
- Vicki and Cris (Pedro's mom) are meeting once a week for prayer, study, and encouragement.
- Preparation and formatting of Nilton‘s big book continues apace.
- I'm also translating a book on local evangelism. More on that later.
- Big changes coming to the magazine to keep apace with the shifting conditions within society and the brotherhood.
